Independent Living Option (ILO)

Morang Community Care aims to empower individuals with disabilities to live meaningful and self-directed lives while receiving the necessary support and assistance to achieve their goals and aspirations. Either you share your home with housemates or live in one of our property, MCC will provide supports in a way that best suits you.

What are Independent Living Options (ILOs)?

  • A Personalized Approach to Support: ILOs are a funding category within the NDIS designed to give participants with disabilities more choice, control, and flexibility in how they live and receive support.
  • Focus on Independence and Community Living: The core goal of ILOs is to help participants live within the community in a way that aligns with their personal aspirations and goals.

How ILOs Work
ILO funding involves two stages:

Exploration and Design (Stage 1):

Support Coordinator Assistance: Participants work with a support coordinator to explore housing options and design tailored support arrangements that best suit their needs.
Funding: The NDIS provides funding for this exploratory stage (usually capped depending on complexity).

Implementation (Stage 2):

  • Choosing the Right Living Situation: Participants choose a living arrangement that reflects their goals. This could include:
    • Living independently in their own home
    • Shared living with housemates
    • Host family arrangements
  • Tailored Support Plan: With the help of their support coordinator, participants finalize their support plan outlining how their ILO funding will be used.

Key Benefits of ILOs

  • Choice and Control: Participants have more autonomy over where they live, who they live with, and the types of supports they receive.
  • Increased Independence: ILOs encourage skill development and promote a stronger sense of independence in daily life.
  • Community Integration: Focus on living arrangements within the community, fostering belonging and participation.
  • Flexibility: Support plans can be adjusted as needs evolve, ensuring they remain suitable for the individual.
