Supported Independent Living pays for the day-to-day help you need to live in a shared or individual home - personal care, medication, meals, getting out, and overnight support. It is funded separately from the rent or board you pay for the house itself.
We do not currently run a supported home inside Western Adelaide, but we place Western Adelaide participants into MCCS homes elsewhere in Adelaide where the housemate match is right, and we deliver in-home SIL-style support in a participant's own home or rental across the region.
We match on compatibility first. Before anyone moves in we look at daily routines, communication, sensory needs, behaviour support requirements and how a person likes to spend their time - then arrange a visit and an overnight stay before a decision is made. MCCS is a registered NDIS provider under Modules 1 and 2A, which means our team is approved for high-intensity daily personal activities and specialist behaviour support, so we can take on complex and high-intensity needs that some providers decline.
Short-Term Accommodation - what most families still call respite - covers a stay away from home of up to 14 days at a time, including support, meals and activities. It gives a participant a change of scene and gives family carers a genuine break.
For Western Adelaide families we offer planned STA booked in advance around school holidays, carer surgery or a holiday, and emergency STA when a carer falls ill or a living arrangement breaks down at short notice. Stays run in our supported homes with the same staff team, so a participant who already knows a house can come back to somewhere familiar.
STA sits under Core supports in most plans, so in many cases it can be used flexibly without a plan review. If you are not sure whether your plan covers it, contact our team and we will read the plan with you.
Alongside SIL and respite we provide Medium-Term Accommodation (MTA) for participants waiting on a permanent home, Individualised Living Options (ILO) for people who want to design their own living arrangement, in-home and personal care, community nursing, and social and community participation. We cover the City of Charles Sturt, City of West Torrens and coastal Port Adelaide Enfield, reaching Henley Beach, West Lakes, Findon, Woodville, Port Adelaide, Semaphore and Mile End and the surrounding suburbs from our office in Hilton.
We do not have a house in Western Adelaide at the moment. We can still support a Western Adelaide participant at home, or look at a compatible vacancy in one of our other Adelaide homes - see current SIL vacancies or call 1300 671 793.
We reply to every enquiry within one business day. In-home supports can usually start within one to two weeks. A SIL placement takes longer because of the compatibility process - typically a meet, a visit and an overnight stay before anyone commits.
